For our Lehigh journalism students ….

Some of you have heard we’ll be doing special Maker Hours session every week next semester to work on learning about digital stuff outside of class. We’re going to do a special session tomorrow and Tuesday to kind of test-run it around building a professional web site on WordPress, something all of you will need as you apply for jobs and internships.

Prof. Matt Veto and Katie Hommes, one of our graduating seniors, will be up there with me to help.

Here’s the deal. Upstairs in Coppee by the Macs. We’re going to walk through how to get your web space set up and how to design something in WordPress. This is a project you’ll need to work on individually to make it good, but the purpose of the session is to give you the tools to get started.

What you’ll need: A credit card (setting up web hosting is about $14 through Reclaim Hosting, which is a steal)
When: Tomorrow from 12:30 to 2 to get set up with the site and WordPress, then Tuesday from 3-5 to go through more WordPress stuff and help you work on getting set up (that Tuesday will be half time for learning and half time just hacking around with it.
Also: Bring your laptop if you can. It’ll make it easier to bookmark all of what you need.

With a little work we can create a pretty nice looking web presence for you in a matter of hours, and then you can work on it in your spare time. This will help you kickstart the process.

Let me know if you want to come. No worries if you can’t. This is going to be a regular thing for us starting this coming fall!
